A few things have changed on Instagram recently.

If you’ve not spotted them yet, here’s a quick update on what’s new and what it means for you.

  1. You can now reorder your grid

Up until recently, the only real way to control how your profile looked was to delete posts and repost them in a different order.

That meant losing all your likes and comments in the process.

Now you can long-press any post on your profile, tap “Reorder grid,” and drag your posts into whatever order you want.

Your likes and comments stay attached to the right content, and the change only affects how your profile looks. Your followers’ feeds are completely unaffected.

For brokers, this means you can move your strongest posts to the top so new visitors see your best work the moment they land on your profile.

  1. Asking for likes actually gets you fewer of them

A study of 24 million Instagram posts found something that might surprise you.

Posts that ask for likes get 5% fewer likes than posts that don’t.

But posts that ask for shares get more shares. Posts that ask for comments get more comments.

Posts that ask for saves get more saves.

So if you want engagement on your posts, be specific about what you’re asking for.

Just don’t ask for likes.

  1. Your follower count may have dropped

In May, Instagram carried out a major platform-wide cleanup and removed millions of bot and inactive accounts, triggering drops in follower counts for creators, brands, and celebrities across the platform.

Meta confirmed that active followers were not affected. Any drop you saw in your numbers was purely fake and inactive accounts being removed.

So if your follower count went down, that’s actually a good thing.

The number you’re left with is a more accurate picture of how many real people are actually following you.
