Today I’m going to show you how to get your audience to fall in love with you. (It is Valentine’s Day after all!) ❤️
Just like you have to date your partner to get them to like you before you even think about asking for a relationship, it takes time!
By getting your audience to like you as a person, you can move from the talking stage to starting a broker/client relationship and turn them from a lurker into a lead!
Most mortgage advisers fail because they’ll use their content to go from the introduction on a blind date stage, straight to the ‘will you walk down the aisle with me’ stage (which we all know ends in disaster!) 🤦
We’ve got to take them out for a meal, tell them about ourselves and even introduce them to the dog (if they’re really special 🐶) before we propose!
Don’t make the first date awkward!
Imagine if you went on a blind date, you’ve got your best outfit on, even broke out the good aftershave/perfume and you’re nervous, with a tinge of excitement. 😬
You arrive, do the awkward formalities (do you kiss one cheek or two?) and then they start talking and don’t stop for the next 30 minutes 🙄
No questions, sharing nothing personal, just purely about what they do on a day to day basis as their job as a gardener? 🌳
When they’ve nearly run out of breath, they then say “Will you marry me?” 🤯
It’d be an odd date and you’d be thinking I missed binge watching Hollyoaks for this (not sure if that’s still going! 😂)
Well, this is what so many mortgage advisers are doing on social media, talking about their business when their audience aren’t interested, rather than trying to build relationships with them 🤝
Think about the 80/20 Rule 🤷♂️
Your social media content should be 80% educational/entertainment and 20% asking for business
You use 80% of your content to get your audience to know, like and trust you:
- Build trust with videos answering some of the most FAQs you’ve been asked this week
- Get them to know you by showing your personal side with photos of you and your family at the weekend
- Talk about things that resonate with your audience to get them to like you (we like to do business with people who are similar to us)
You can be as personal as you want on social media, but the more personal you are, the ore likely you are to attract your ideal clients. 😍
Then when you upload a post asking for the business or explaining what services you offer (20% of the time) your audience are much more likely to buy into what you do, because they already know like and trust you.
It’s not a one way street! ❌
Social media is made up of two words- the first being ‘social’ (that didn’t mean to be condescending!)
So why do we think we can just post the ‘media’ and expect the results! Instead, just like you would on a first date, engage with them 💬
❓Ask them questions in their Instagram Stories
📲 Comment on something positive they’ve posted on LinkedIn
🏆 Share their post about their recent successes on Facebook
Whatever channel you’re on, be the most sociable person they know
Then when you post about your business, they’re much more likely to return the favour!
Blow them away with your proposal 💍
No one wants a half-arsed marriage proposal, so go in with a dozen red roses, a full orchestra and white doves! 🌹 🎷 🕊️
What I’m saying is when you finally do propose (or ask your audience to book an appointment) show your audience how amazing you are as a mortgage broker:
- Share that you have over 50 Five Star Google Reviews – show how much of a catch you are and you have appointment slots this week
- Upload a post about how a recent rate switch you did saved your client £10,000 over the next 3 years and you could do the same for them – Book in now to see if we can do the same for you
Don’t just share a post saying “We have appointments this week!” 🙉
Put all of these into practice with your social media content this week and watch your audience go weak at the knees! 😍
Happy Valentine’s Day for tomorrow you lovely lot! 🧡 💙
